Ask an Elder, with Ernest & Reva Nell

Ernest and Reva
There are so many articles, books, classes, and more, out their today, teaching people how to build and keep their marriages strong and healthy. But when sitting down to ponder which to read or try first, I began to think of the many wonderful couples living right here at Flower Mound Assisted Living. So many of our married couples have been married well over half a century and seem more in love and dedicated to one another than ever. So I decided to sit down and talk with Ernest and Reva Nell Salkeld on how they have kept their marriage so strong for so many years and if they had any tips or pointers that they could offer to someone looking to build on their own marriage or relationship.
Ernest and Reva were quick to answer this question and said that in order to build a strong marriage you have to always start off with lots of love, followed by being fair to one another. Before going to bed each night, make sure to give each other a kiss and say, “I Love You!”. Try your hardest not to argue, carry on, or stay mad at one another. But after being married for 69 years, the most important thing to always remember is to, again, start with love! The love which brought you together will help keep you happily together!
